Accelerate Your Learning With this Reflection Journal

    6/15/2021

    Hello!

    Welcome to this Tuesday's 2 x 2 Newsletter.

Every week, I share insights from my exploration into the science and art of learning.

My aim is to offer you valuable ideas and tools that you can start using today to learn faster and better.

This week, I created a reflection journal template that you can use to improve in virtually any area. Drawing from healthcare research, it poses four simple questions that can rapidly accelerate learning progress.

I hope it can help you reach new levels of insight and growth.

2 Quotes — Details vs. Big Picture Learning:

    • “How you do anything is how you do everything. How you do this task in front of you right now is a reflection of who you are as a person, and it’s a reflection of your general attitude towards the rest of your responsibilities.” — Ryan Holiday, Alabama U Football Seminar

    • “You’ve got to think about big things while you’re doing small things, so that all the small things go in the right direction.” — Alvin Toffler

    2 Thoughts From Me:

    • Learning is something that happens today. It happens right now. If your mind is in future-planning or past-regretting mode, you won't notice the opportunities to distill wisdom from experience—both your own and others. While reflecting on past experience is crucial, you need to be present for those experiences to truly glean new knowledge from them.

    • Growth mindset and modern neuroscience tell us that we can learn way more than we think possible. What's your crazy moonshot learning goal?

For all you teachers out there, Barbara Oakley's latest book Uncommon Sense Teaching just came out today. Co-authored by Terry Sejnowski and Beth Rogowsky, the book offers insights into effective teaching practices from a neuroscience perspective.

I look forward to offering you a detailed summary of the book in next week's newsletter.

    Until next Tuesday,
