Review: David Goggins is, without a doubt, one of the most bad-ass people on the planet.

His personal achievements(he completed Navy SEAL, Air Force, and U.S. Army Ranger training), unbelievable resilience and determination in the face of life's obstacles, and ability to cut straight through the bullshit excuses we create for ourselves make him one of my most esteemed heroes.

I was already familiar with David Goggins (and his alter ego, Goggins), but this book really shed some light on how he became the remarkable person he is today. Stories ranging from his traumatic childhood, his encounters with racism and the domineering, sadistic instructors that wanted to see him quit during BUD/S training—and beyond—paint a picture of a man who has endured and prevailed.

The book's style  makes it highly accessible, almost to a fault. Be forewarned: there is a lot of swearing. But, that's kind of what makes it shine. It's irreverence and plain speech make it something you can tear through in a day or two, if you can handle the intensity.

Another disclaimer: reading this book may make you start doing hundreds of pull-ups and push-ups every day, and periodically shout "WHO'S GOING TO CARRY THE BOATS!!??" at solicitous loved ones . Don't say I didn't warn you.

What I learned:

If you have reached the point where want to call it quits, you are 40% of the way there. Keep going.

If Goggins can do it, than you can do 1/10th of it (which is still really good).

Callous your mind by exposing yourself to challenges and discomfort. You'll get stronger doing it.
