Review:
An inspiring, yet occasionally repetitive, account of the life of one of the most extraordinary innovators in recent history. Isaacson paints a really compelling picture of Jobs, warts and all. I loved learning about his youthful pranks, cult leader levels of charisma (as a child he once talked a fellow student out of his shirt on Hawaiian Shirt Day so he could wear it himself) and uncompromising approach to making beautiful, functional products that, in his words, made (and continue to make) a dent in the universe.

What I Learned:

Do less, but better. One of the reasons for Apple's early success was its ability to position itself at the intersection of the humanities and technology (other companies, like Microsoft, didn't get that).

"It's better to be a pirate than to join the navy."

Steve Jobs could focus, intensely. This was one of his secrets to success — emulate this quality wherever possible.

Being disagreeable doesn't win you many friends, but it can help when it comes to homing in on the truth and pushing your team to achieve difficult things. Just don't be a complete jerk.

Make the things you want to see, own, use, etc. in the world. If you make something truly remarkable and market it effectively, people will line up for it. No amount of market research can replicate this kind of success.

"Nobody is eager for a lecture, but everybody loves a story."
